Confronting Fear and Taking Charge of Your Life

I've been here...just processing and listening to messages and to what needs to be shared with you all.  That being said, today's topic is a big one...confronting fear.  Never easy.  Never ordinary. Always necessary to create the life you want and to move forward in the direction you are meant to.  While it is good to be mindful, it is paralyzing to be fearful.  So, let's talk about that a bit, shall we?  And this entry is filled with bullet lists so if you like that sort of thing, this will be right up your alley!  ;)

Confronting Fear and Taking Charge of Your Life

That title sounds like an inspirational Hay House book, don't you think?! But it's true!  Fear keeps us inside our little holes with the windows shut and the blinds pulled and no one comes in...and we don't go out.  We stop living life.  Part of the journey is the experience...the good, the bad, the everything in between.  It is meeting people and finding kindred spirits.  It is having our not-so-fun button pushed by other drivers on the road or the cashier at the grocery.  It is making connections and missing your flights.  It is having one door close and having another one open.

Life.

Something to think about and really take to heart is to realize that we create our own happiness...our own lives.  How do we create the kind of life we want?

  • By being okay with saying "No" to the things that you really don't want to be a part of.
  • By saying "Yes" to the things that might scare us a little
  • Being willing to experiment, explore and manifest our desires in life
  • Taking a chance and putting yourself out there in situations you are capable of being in but maybe just lack a little confidence

Take some time to day to really think about what it is that you want out of life....and then think and plan on just HOW you are going to manifest that.  Notice the bumps in the road you quickly put into place because of fear.  Examine them...and gently remove them.

Steps to conquering fear

This Winter I will be traveling to a place I have never been before, in a part of the world I have never been in before, and probably in a way I've never experienced before.

*Egypt

*Istanbul

Let me tell you...I'm excited!!!  I've done some traveling alone, done some traveling alone abroad but this...THIS...is going to fulfill one of my words for the year:

EPIC!!!

I think that living an "Epic" life can be filled with fear.  How do I know?  I tackle it each and every day.

  • The fear of not being "good enough"
  • The fear of not being "enough"
  • The fear of doing it wrong
  • The fear of getting lost
  • The fear of not knowing your way back
  • The fear of judgement

BUT, the biggest thing is that you can still have these fears...you simply meet them.  Head on.  Peddle to the metal.  Seatbelt on. Hands at 10 and 2.

It is also helpful to remember that EVERYONE experiences fear.  A great story was shared with me a few weeks ago by a grandmother who was proudly telling me about watching her grandson perform and sing in the high school musical and how wonderful he was. When she saw him after the performance she praised him and he said, "I'm shaking in my shoes the whole time!"  But, she said, "you wouldn't have known that by watching him."

So, I'll say it again because it is important....EVERYONE experiences fear.

  • Oprah
  • Angelina Jolie
  • Lady Gaga
  • Ryan Gosling
  • Jimmy Fallon
  • Ellen
  • NFL quarterbacks
  • Company CEO's
  • Film directors
  • Record label managers
  • You fill in the name with someone you admire most and put it here

What sets you apart is that you don't let fear take over and you keep going, even if it is slow at first.  Just keep going.  One day, one step, one moment at a time, breathing in, breathing out.

You got this!
