How to get everything you want

Getting everything you want?  Is that really even possible?  Well, I certainly am the kind of girl who likes to tackle each and every self-limiting thought and obstacle I place in my way to do that, so I'd say....the possibilities are endless!

Take this picture for example.  That's me.  Working!  On the Great Wall of China!

WHAT?! Yes! So how did I end up halfway around the world with my cameras working on the Great Wall of China?!

First, I tapped into my sense of adventure and said nonchalantly, “I travel” to the wedding fitness coach’s lament that she loved my work but that she was moving to China in a month. I set aside my fears of the unknown because I hadn’t traveled for work before and just put it out there with a big ole fat YES.

I knew there was a way to make it happen and that if it were meant to happen, the Universe would make sure that it did. The Rumi quote, “What you seek is seeking you” is so very true.

When she contacted me again a few months later saying she really wanted me to come to China and do her branding photos for her website, social media and promotions, we sat down with our calendars and started looking at time frames that would work for us both. Then we hashed out the cost of the trip and the logistics and before I knew it, I was getting my Chinese visa and getting on a plane for a 13 hour flight to China.

That trip taught me a LOT about how to get what you want because if either of us had caved in to our fears about cost, the work it took to actually get the Chinese visa (you had to have an invitation to enter the country by someone living there!), and more it never would have happened. We wouldn’t have become great friends. We wouldn’t have had a magical beautiful morning all to ourselves at sunrise on the Great Wall of China. She wouldn’t have gotten a huge bank of images to use for at least 2 years for all that she wanted to do in her business.

Keys to getting what you want

Clarity: This is the first step. If you’re not clear on what you want, you’re not going to get clear results. One of the best ways to do this is to write it down….write everything down that you want to do or get done. Travel to Paris? Write it down. Write a novel? Write it down. Buy a new couch? Write it down. If you’d like, you can even create a vision board with things on it that you want in your future.

Action: Getting what you want is something that takes mindfulness AND action, with ACTION being the most important part of that equation. Skipping this step is like…. if you want to win the lottery but never buy a ticket, or want to write the next New York Times’ best seller but never write the first word, or say to your friends, “We should get together soon” without grabbing your calendars and scheduling it, or wanting to be a part of something meaningful but never contacting anyone to volunteer for causes that touch you.

Put it on your calendar: This is the truth! Even if you’re saving up for a trip to Paris, write your savings goals on your calendar….so that when your paycheck comes in on Tuesday, you slide that $100 over to your savings account on Wednesday. Seeing what you have to not only get done, but looking back to see what all you accomplished is a great visual motivator and helps you to know how to manage your time

Practical muggle tools

Here are some things you can do and get your hands on to help you increase your odds of getting everything you want. We’re humans and we like our tools and these are some great ones!

The Desire Map: This is a book that helped me tremendously while going through a painful separation in my 20 year marriage and while I am an affiliate, I wouldn’t endorse it if I hadn’t seen results in my own life first. The premise is that you not only focus on what you want to do but how you want to feel. It was a total game changer for me and I highly recommend working through it to begin creating the life you love waking up to every day. There’s so much more in there, so if you want to go deeper into it, you can purchase the book and really get clear on how you want to feel and take actionable steps from there.

You can get your copy here: I WANT THIS DESIRE MAP!

Everything is Figureoutable book: First of all, I’m not an affiliate of Marie’s BUT I do love this book. When you need clarity, when you’re getting in your own way, when you feel stuck, she gives some really great advice to get you through it. There’s lots of actions to take but if you REALLY REALLY want something, there are ways to figure it out, and she shows you how.

You can order the book online or find it at your local bookstore :)

Day planner: I want to say that this is another simple game changer for me. I’ve been doing a LOT and it’s gotten to a point that just waking up each day thinking about what I want to do that day isn’t going to cut it anymore. I need more structure so I got a day planner and outlined my first few months of the year. I know each day what I’m working on and that has created a lot of peace of mind because I know that I’ve scheduled Tuesday as the day I work on accounting and Wednesday I’ll do readings and read journals from my Iseum program, and Friday night I’m going to a play. The stress of forgetting something or not getting things done until the day before is now gone. One of these days, I’ll have to design a day planner filled with beautiful pictures from around the world but for now, find one you like and start writing things down! You’ll be amazed at how much this helps you stay focused on your goals!

Friends (positivity and accountability, not enabling limitations): We all need friends to understand us and support us. What we don’t need are friendships that focus on negativity and keep us spiraling in our limiting thought patterns. Start thinking about the relationships you have and the dynamics of them. I’ve had to allow friendships that were based on struggles in life fade away so that I don’t feel like life is out to get me. I’ve pulled in friends who stay on task, are goal oriented, positive thinkers so that they inspire me to be the kind of person that also inspires them. You don’t have to just up and leave your negative friends….you can notice these dynamics, bring them up in conversation and share that you’re wanting to change your mindset on some things and would they like to join you. Maybe they hadn’t even noticed what was happening and will be grateful that you asked. Maybe they did notice but didn’t know what to do about it and here you are with a solution! Yay friendship!

Piggy bank (well, keep track of your money and how to save more): I have more than one account and they are dedicated to one thing or another. One for emergencies, one for travel, one for some other big fun purchase, etc. If there’s something I want to purchase or save up for, I outline it and figure out how much I’ll need to save each month/week to accomplish it. This really helps SO much because when you break it down, it looks easier! Setting aside a $400/mo payment for 3 months might feel more attainable than just whipping out the checkbook for $1200 at a time. Know where your money is and where it’s going.

Spending habits are another way to tackle your money challenges. How many times a week do you go out to eat/to a movie/buy groceries that you don’t need that week? It adds up! Keep a spreadsheet you track your spending habits on…you might be surprised. Without knowing these things, it’s hard to know how to tackle things and the steps you need to take to bring things into balance.

Magical Egyptian guidance

If you’ve been reading through all of this and are waiting to see how I tie all of this in to the magic of Egypt, here you go! Sorry you had to wait until the end of the blog, but if you’re here, yay! The previous information is provided also because the Egyptian neteru are extremely practical as well as magical so it’s all important.

I’d like to suggest some Egyptian gods and goddesses to you to help you stay on task, clear the way, and get everything you want. There’s sometimes an interesting thing that happens when we work toward things we want. In the midst of it we realize it’s not that particular thing after all….it’s something else wonderful. Stay flexible and open as you begin working with these incredible beings for manifestation and you’ll soon discover that yes, “What you seek is seeking you.”

Ptah — Ptah is a god of creation and is part of what’s known as the Memphite Triad which includes Ptah, Sekhmet and their son Nefertem. He’s known for his wisdom in architecture and creating the world with his words. Many times, Ptah is shown on temple walls as a man in a blue cap whose arms are crossed in front of his body, hence his ability to create with his mind and his words. He is a wonderful neter to connect with when you need to get clarity on the life you want, want to be mindful of how you think and speak about your life/desires, and make plans to accomplish your goals.

Start to pay attention to how you define your desires and how you talk about your life in general. Do you say things like, “I wish I could do ___________, but I can’t because ____________. Maybe someday I’ll _______________….if I’m lucky or win the lottery”? Many times, instead of saying that we CAN'T, we could actually admit that it’s not important to us and that we really don’t WANT to. What?! Yes….the things you really want to do, you’ll figure out a way to make them happen, even if it means taking years to accomplish. Again….call upon Ptah to help you sort out what’s important to you and what you want to focus on. Then you’ll have the foundation upon which to build your life. If it helps to write down all your goals or create a vision board, invite Ptah in to help you. How do you invite him? You simply ask for his presence and open your mind to the guidance that comes and trust that he’s there with you as you make your lists and create your vision board.

Sekhmet — Sekhmet is part of that Memphite Triad mentioned above. She’s a lion-headed fierce goddess who has many stories of destruction written about her. However, as a destructive force in the Universe, she also creates….space….for all the new things to come in. When you’re getting rid of the clutter you can invoke her presence and strength by of course, calling her in by name. You can also wear red or wear some carnelian as you work. A powerful way to connect with her is to stand quietly and notice your breath. Ask her to stand in front of you and breathe with you. As you breathe with her, feel the heat of her breath on your face, filling your nostrils and moving into your lungs. You may feel like roaring! She’s very powerful and is sometimes associated with the Chariot card in the tarot.

Set — Oh, Set. I really have enjoyed his perspective and guidance through challenges over the years. If you’ve ever watched the Lion King, Set has the role of jealous Uncle Scar. He wants to rule the entire land, not just the desert. He forgot that he’s king of the desert and all the amazing things that are there! How many times have you focused on the seemingly negative aspects of your life or how hard some situation is rather than keeping your bootstraps tied and meeting those challenges head on?

With Set, he can guide you deeper into your own subconscious mind where fears and doubts run around like a herd of cats, distracting us from our joy and our purpose. His involvement as a teacher is to present challenges and ask us, “What are you going to do about that?” He sits with us, helps us face our fears and move forward in our lives in spite of all the obstacles….many of which we place in our own way.

To work with Set, as always, you can simply speak his nam or just think it, and spend some time with your fears and doubts. Not to let them overwhelm you, but to examine them. It can help sometimes to think of the worst possible outcome and then balance that with the best possible outcome. While he’s known for disrupting balance, in the early stories, he protects Ra the sun god from the monster Apep as he travels through the night.

You are like Ra and Set will guide you as well.

In conclusion
